Hi; I just wanted to know if any of you hear have a favorite sound of some sort. I like the sound of people talking, and I like the sound of water splashing. I just want to know what's your favorite sound. If you want to give your reasoning as tto why it might be your favorite sound, you can write that if you want to also.

I love ocean sounds and rain/thunderstorms etc. I also love the sound of a tuned piano, cello, guitar, and many other instruments. The ocean and rain/thunderstorms are relaxing and the instruments are sonicly interesting and evocative and emotional, well, sometimes...

Post 4 by motifated (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 04-Jun-2006 23:30:22

Wow! I see that nobody limmited it to one sound. That's good, because I couldn't either. My two favorite non-musical sounds are a grandfather or mantel clock ticking, and the sound of my cat purring when he's really relaxed. Something about that last, he breathes long and bvery deeply. It says to me "All is right in my world." Musical sounds are difficult. I play several instruments, and enjoy the sounds they all make. I'd have to say my favorite like Guitar God is a well-tuned piano. Next probably comes a well-played acoustic guitar. The intimacy those instruments evoke is very relaxing for me.

Post 5 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Monday, 05-Jun-2006 0:20:29

In my previous post i didn't say any instruments. I like the sound of harp and flute.

Heavy rain on a window (thunder is an excellent bonus) probably is my favorite sound ever. I also like crickets, high heels, cello, fires from fireplaces.

I have a couple. Nature, rain but not storms, string and wind musical instruments, and guys singing in choral settings. I dunno why I like that last one but... yeah

My cat purring, tap dancers, high heels on tile floor, a baby giggling,...I'm sure I'll think of more.

Mine are rain and sometimes hail, chimes and small bells, guitar, tamberines and maracas and related instruments, rotery phones when they are being dialed, and typewriter and computer keyboard keys being pressed. I also used to like when my dog, Jubilee, would make high pitch barking sounds when she saw me, even I was petting her. It's hard to describe, it sounded kind of like laughing or something, but with different tones. She could bark normally, growl, and cry, but she was the only dog I knew of that regularly made those sounds I was talking about. Another sound she'd make, although this mor annoyed me, was that she would yell at an elderly but hyper Chihuahua we have by barking at her near her ears.

LOL, I couldn't resist. But further up in this thread I posted nice sounds that I like, but today being 6/6/6 I just had to post something evil.

Post 16 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Tuesday, 06-Jun-2006 22:05:36

Sorry for my stubit question but as i said in other topicks English is not my first language. So What does it mean being 6/6/6? I never heard this before.

Post 17 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Tuesday, 06-Jun-2006 23:36:22

Nikos, the date is the 6th day of June (6th month), of 2006 (usually shortened to 06 or just 6). The numbers 666 appearing together supposedly relate to the devil or the anti-Christ, and a lot of people are afraid that somewhere a baby is being born on this date that will end up being the anti-christ.

Post 18 by Nem (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 07-Jun-2006 4:35:54

I have heard the most people's favorite sound is the sound of their own name.

Post 19 by Texas Shawn (The cute, cuddley, little furr ball) on Wednesday, 07-Jun-2006 7:46:15

Suzanne, you like his voice but can you understand him? jk.
rain on a window, a crackling fire, that out in the middle of nowhere sound, oh I guess that would be nothing. hmmm, I wunder what space sounds like. even out in the middle of no where you can hear something.

Post 20 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Wednesday, 07-Jun-2006 8:43:59

I also like the sound of old steam trains. And also ringing sounds from different countries. The sound when you dial a number and you wait until they answer. I like the fact that they are different in most countries. For example in England is different than in the uSA etc. I find them amasing.

Post 21 by Pure love (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Wednesday, 07-Jun-2006 10:53:46

I like the sound of waves in the sea, and I love the sound of people laughing, (and my own laugh, especially when I laugh like a witch). Lol

Post 22 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Wednesday, 07-Jun-2006 11:34:56

The sound of my pint of genuine Irish Guinness being poured

Post 23 by jaguar (Addicted to the Zone) on Thursday, 08-Jun-2006 14:16:34

I love the sound of rain on the window, the roar of the ocean, wind chimes and bell choirs, harp music, a luscious choral work and the enthusiastic beat of rock and roll. Could think of more, I'm sure.

Post 24 by BeautyQueen (Veteran Zoner) on Thursday, 08-Jun-2006 19:03:56

I also like the sounds of birds chirping, a rooster crowing kin the wee hours of the morning while I'm trying to sleep, and avove all, the sound of laughter.

Post 25 by sparkie (the hilljack) on Thursday, 08-Jun-2006 19:54:45

Post 26 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Thursday, 08-Jun-2006 20:14:52

I also like hearing birds in the morning. When I used to stay at the Criss Cole Center or sometimes at the School for the Blind, that's something I missed since I usually couldn't hear them from my rooms. Also, I like hearing my family when everyone is in a good mood and joking and playing around, something else I would miss while I was away from home. *smile*

Post 27 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Friday, 09-Jun-2006 8:16:00

you could make tapes of these sounds then they would always be there.

Post 28 by Pure love (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Friday, 09-Jun-2006 15:51:14

Yes, birds singing is another great sound, and water splashing in general.

Post 29 by Nick6489 (11 years a Zoner) on Tuesday, 15-Aug-2006 13:09:17

Like Goblin, one of my favorite sounds is that of a motor. A boeing 737 taking off from the interior prospective thrills me. Anyone know where I can find one of those? I'd record one myself...but the stupid no electronic devices during takeoff and landing, which until recently the brits didn't have...well...yeah.

Post 30 by the wrath of fire (Veteran Zoner) on Tuesday, 15-Aug-2006 15:49:36

I like the sounds of steam trains, the violin, piano, the sound of a steel guitar, the sound of children's laughter, and I'm sure I could think of more.

Post 31 by Amethyst Moon (I can't call it a day til I enter the zone BBS) on Tuesday, 15-Aug-2006 18:23:38

I like the sounds that water makes most of all or that people/animals make in water like bubbles blowing, rivers running, ocean tides coming in and out, rain tapping on a window, but the best is when you live in a mobile home with a lot of aluminum siding like I did with my parents and rain would tap on it or the metal roof or the outside and inside of the storm drain pipes. About the only thing I miss about my parents' house is the sounds Lacy made like whimpering or squeaking or groaning or barks that were so well drawn out and put together and in different pitches that sounded like she was trying to talk like a human, LOL!

Post 32 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Wednesday, 16-Aug-2006 13:43:30

Aw'w'w that's cool. My favourite sounds are my friends, voices, sitting in your friends, mum's cars, knowing you're on your way to their house, to the shopsor anywhere really. Anything to do with babies, such as the weels of the buggy as me and Aunty Lou used to push it together owhen we took my cousins out for walks and stuff when they were little, the squeaks, the cooing and the movements of newborns in their carseat or on your knees when you're holding them.

Post 34 by Mlynwei (Last word? Gimmie the first!) on Sunday, 31-May-2009 3:40:55

I like windchimes, waterfalls, the sounds dogs make when they dream, hearing aid feedback and Becca singing.
And post 18, are you kidding? I hate the sound of my own name.

Post 35 by tear drop (No longer looking for a prince, merely a pauper with potential!!!!!) on Sunday, 31-May-2009 4:50:43

The sound of my cat's purring/snoring. Rain and thunder if not severe, and one I've come to learn to like from living in the south, tree frogs.

Post 36 by motifated (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 31-May-2009 6:46:09

I can't believe I forgot this one, but I like the sound of snow falling on snow, and the silence after a large snowstorm. Although is hard to travel in it, there's something about that "silence" because of the way sound is just absorbed in the snow that is oddly tranquilizing.

Lout

I love the sound of wind chimes, birds, ocean waves, dolphins, music boxes, people screaming their heads off on rollercoasters, well or just-tuned grand pianos, and the electric violin
There are probably more but I can't think of any right now. might post more later. good topic.

As for music, I really like the harp. It's so ethereal. I also like the base guitar, xylophone, and the triangle.
